About the Olympiad

Civic Education Olympiad is a contest organized by Civic Education Teachers’ Forum within the framework of USAID Civic Education Program. The aim of the Olympiad is to make young people and teachers interested in topics of and thus to support raising awareness on civic education. The Olympiad also aims at making civic education available not only for teachers of respective class, but for teachers of other disciplines such as Georgian language and literature, social studies, foreign languages and information and communication technologies.

The Olympiad is organized once in a year interchangeably for teachers (year 2023 and 2025) and students (year 2024 and 2026). Students from IX-XII grades from USAID Civic Education Program’s partner schools are eligible to participate. Eligibility criteria for teachers include teachers of Georgian language and literature, social studies, foreign languages and information and communication technologies.

Civic Education Olympiad consists of several stages and it checks not only theoretical knowledge of civic education topics, but also the notion of active citizenship in practice.

Reading materials will be uploaded on the Olympiad website in advance. Interested students and teachers will be able to get familiarized with the materials that will help them to successfully pass the Olympiad stages. Moreover, additional materials will be uploaded to support participants to have a deeper understanding of the Olympiad topics.

Civic Education Olympiad for Students

IX-XII graders from one of the USAID Civic Education Program’s partner schools are eligible to participate in Civic Education Olympiad.

The Olympiad consists of three stages, which includes theoretical as well as practical components. The first and the second stages of the Olympiad will be carried out online. Finalists who will successfully pass the first two stages will take part in summer school. Participants will be given different tasks and the winners will be nominated based on their performance. Winners will be awarded prizes.

Civic Education Olympiad

Civic Education Olympiad for Teachers

Eligibility criteria for Civic Education Olympiad for teachers is the following: Teachers should be representing one of the USAID Civic Education Program`s partner schools. Teachers should form a group of three members. One of the group members and a team leader must be a teacher of civic education. Other members can be teachers of social studies, Georgian language and literature, foreign languages and history. It is possible to have several groups from one school but one teacher should be a member of only one team.

After registering for themselves on the website, the team leader (civic education teacher) should add their group members and indicate the name of the team. Detailed information regarding the registration process can be found here

The first stage of Olympiad will be carried out online. Successful teams will have to implement projects on specific topics during the second stage.

One team from each region of Georgia will be selected for the final stage of the Olympiad. Thus, 33 teachers from 11 regions of Georgia will participate in the summer school where they will have to complete different tasks to select three winner groups. The winners will be awarded prizes

USAID Civic Education Program is implemented by PH International with the financial support from the United States Agency for International Development. The program is supported by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia. The goal of the USAID Civic Education program is to raise the youth with high civic consciousness and involve them in civic processes. The program aims to implement technology in in the process of teaching and learning civic education, develop democratic culture at schools and support partnerships between private sector and schools.

USAID Civic Education Program is implemented in 650 schools across Georgia. Students between VII-XII grades, teachers and representatives of school administration are involved in the program.

Civic Education Teachers Forum is one of the partner organizations of the USAID Civic Education Program.
